[DVIPDFMx] dvipdfmx not including eps graphics in pdf file

I know I can get a pdf file by using

dvips -f u  | ps2pdf -  u.ps

It's just strange that a feature that has been in dvipdfm forever has been dropped in dvipdfmx.
Will this be fixed at some point?

As far as I can tell, this dvipdfm feature has been dropped from
dvipdfmx. (This must have been before I joined the development team.)
But it should be possible to convert the eps files to pdf (via ps2pdf,
for instance) and then include those.
